What Type of Boiler should I have next

There are many reasons why you would want to replace your boilers. Maybe, you have just relocated to a new house, and you need to replace the existing heating system, or your heating system has broken down. Some people may even replace their heating system for improved performance especially if they have had it for a long time. But before replacing the boilers you have, it is best first to understand what type you are using.

Combi

If you are using a combi boiler system, it means that you get hot water instantly when you turn on the taps. With combi boilers, you do not need to have tanks in the roof space since they heat water directly from the mains.

Standard

Commonly known as conventional water boilers, standard boilers work by having one hot water cylinder and a cold water tank at the rooftop. If you have such a setup, then most likely you are using the standard boiler system.

System

System boilers work by having hot water storage cylinders with pressure gauges at their front. You could be using a system boiler if you don't have a cold water storage tank in the loft.

Back Boiler

People who have Potterton Powermax mostly prefers a back boiler, or it can be built-in behind your fireplace if you are using either electricity or gas.

By now, hopefully, you know what type of boiler you have, and you may be ready to determine the type of heating system you want for your house. There are many types of boilers you can choose from but, combi boiler systems are the best because they are affordable, durable and do not take up a lot of space in your house. Other conventional boilers take up a lot of space and may apply to individuals with bigger spaces or even more showers within their households.

When it comes to combi boilers also, there are many brands and models you need to choose from in the market. In the UK, the best brand is the Worcester Bosch Boilers. Which? Gas boiler report has for the past nine years recognised Worcester Bosch Boilers as the best in the business. Hence, it is a trusted brand. We are also part of their installation team, and we install their Greenstar Combi, system and conventional boilers.

BUYING A COMBI BOILER

A combi boiler system is ideal for installing in a residential area because they occupy minimal space within the premises. Also, they do not require hot water storage cylinders hence; they are the most common type of boiler in the UK.

How do combi boilers work?

Combi boiler systems work by heating water instantly when you turn on your hot water tap. The system does not require that water is heated prior and stored in a hot water storage cylinder.

PROS AND CONS OF A COMBI BOILER

The advantages of using a combi boiler are:

They are cost effective

They save energy

Less space is required at the rooftop

It is ideal for houses without a loft

Since few pipes are installed, the process of installation is fast and efficient.

The cons of a combi boiler are:

Since the system does not have back up storage for hot water, in the event there is a power shortage, the premises may lack hot water.

Combi boilers require that the mains produce water in high pressure

Combi boilers may not be effective if more than one person is using the hot water taps within the house.
